General Characteristics:
The lesson plan is suited for Cycle 1 Year 4 students reading class geared towards the average learner. Students’ ages range from 7-9 years. There are no children with disabilities. The class is made up of African descent children. The students come from families of various socioeconomic status, however, most are from lower/middle class families.

Instructional Objective(s): Students will--
Ø Place the butterfly cycle in order.
Ø Create a module of the butterfly cycle.

Materials, Media : The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, 4 glues, butterfly cycles, different stripped paper,"The Fuzzy Caterpillar" Song, "Itsy Bitsy Spider" tune sets of butterfly wings, butterfly cycle mini poster, computer with access to internet, overhead projector with connection and cables, signs of the butterfly cycle

Utilize Media, Materials and Methods:
1. Students will be taught the song of the life cycle of the butterfly.
2. Students will be prompted to tell what kind of animal they see a lot of during Easter time (butterflies).
3. The story of the “The Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle will be read to the students while the video of the story is showing.
4. They will get 4 cards that represent the butterfly stages/cycle. They will have to arrange the cards from 1st to 4th on their table. This will be done to see if they comprehended the story.
5. After the ordering of cards, they will get 10 seconds to discuss their results with their neighbor Students will be monitored.
6. We will make a module of the butterfly cycle. The students will be in groups of twos.
7. Students will first write “The butterfly cycle” on the top of the folded piece, and then their name.
8. They will then glue the first stage on the inside the first piece of the folded paper. Then the second, third then the last cycle on the last folded piece. (Differentiation: If a student finishes very fast, they will write the stages above the glued pictures.)
9. We will discuss their module and they will be encouraged to look out for all the cycles of the butterfly around their surroundings.
10. Students will then watch a podcast video on the life cycle of the butterfly of which they will try to guess the stages.
Require Learner Participation:
Each student will be graded partially on his or her participation. The children will get involved through group project creating a module of the butterfly, learning of the song and answers given from questions posed from the story and podcast video . The teaching of the song will require individual participation where they will demonstrate the song using their hands and fingers. The butterfly project will involve all members of the group and each member will create a module of the butterfly cycle. The reward will be to take home the finished product to be used as a bookmark. We will walk around the classroom observing all members of the group. There will also be participation in the story book reading as random children will be called on to answer questions. The podcast video will be watched and students individually will guess the stages.
